Event description

Springfield Lakes Nature Care Inc - a local Landcare group in Greater Springfield is holding a Koala Walk & Talk to celebrate World Conservation Day. Ipswich Koala Protection Society will be bringing their display trailer & be on hand for you to ask questions about koalas & if you wish you can join in for a short walk & talk along the Louise Clews Track to view points where we have seen koalas or have found their scats (poo).

World Nature Conservation Day aims

  • to raise awareness about environmental issues and promote sustainable practices.
  • it emphasizes the need to conserve natural resources, protect biodiversity, & maintain ecological balance.

This survey walk aims to collect photographic evidence to help scientist's map locations of vulnerable or endangered species, such as koalas. The value of this data can be fed back to our local government about areas of significance. If you plan to take any photographs of koalas & other flora or fauna, you may wish to use the iNaturalist app & have the app downloaded to your phone but don't worry it's free. Simply upload it to your phone from the google play store before attending the Koala Count Survey Walk. Please have your phone's location on to record the whereabouts of your finding.

Using your smartphone or camera you can photograph plants, insects, birds, reptiles, aquatic life or native animals that you observe during the walk. Your aim is to get a good clear photograph. Try taking photos of plants, trees, seed pods or flowers, a spider in a web as these animals are less likely to move when you get close.

BYO water bottle, hat, binoculars, if you have them & wear comfortable shoes & sunsafe clothing.

You can also get tickets to attend other hands-one events during the #PeakstoPointFestival. Please visit our Facebook page see links below.
