After spending an hour with Dean Kelly (Yurruungga Aboriginal Corporation), we will wander through the recent planting at Hydes Creek, and into the beautiful established riparian zone, after which Tanya Fox and others will talk about the importance of habitat connectivity for koalas and other animals, and Katie Allwood will introduce us to some great mapping and ID apps, and talk abut citizen science in Pine Creek.

Our most likely walking route will have us driving a few km up Hydes Creek Road where Jason John will talk about the intersection of a number of forest types, before John Pile takes us on a guided walk of about two hours, learning more about koalas, connectivity and identifying koala feed trees, as well as seeing what our wildlife cameras have picked up. The walk will be on formed, but not well maintained tracks. Moderate fitness required.

BYO lunch, water, sturdy shoes, sun and insect protection.

If you are coming, and want to explore using the apps, please install Avenza for mapping, and iNaturalist, ispykoala, and FrogID for identification. Feel free to have a go before we meet, you will be sent the links to some maps you can upload for Avenza before we gather.

Meet at the corner of Hydes Creek Road and Reids Road, 4km north of Bellingen. We will then drive to the walk, car pooling is necessary into AWD/4WD vehicles.
