Koine and Biblical Greek for Beginners
Event description
This course is for beginners who want to experience the thrill of reading parts of the Bible and early Christian literature in their original language. We shall read extracts from the Gospel and Epistles, as well as some important passages from the Septuagint (the ancient Greek version of the Old Testament), and portions of the eucharistic Liturgy of St John Chrysostom.
Location: Lindisfarne Pastoral Centre, 3 Bay Rd, Lindisfarne
Dates: Weekly on Thursdays, from 18 Sept - 20 Nov (10 sessions total)
Time: 10:30am - 12:30pm
Cost: $90 (includes workbook)
Prior knowledge of Greek is not essential, but beginners are encouraged to buy a self-instruction primer such as Gavin Betts, Complete New Testament Greek: A Comprehensive Guide to Reading and Understanding New Testament Greek with Original Texts. It is vital that you acquire a comfortable recognition knowledge of the Greek alphabet at the beginning, otherwise you will find learning even basic grammar and vocabulary frustrating and inefficient: our first two sessions will concentrate on getting that right, but we encourage you to start before then! A copy of Langenscheidt's pocket Greek Dictionary may also be useful for anyone intending to continue on their own after the course ends.
The Lecturer will be Dr David Daintree
