A comprehensive introduction to the basic operation of the core large woodworking machines in order to use them safely.
Based on Hiroshi's 10 years professional teaching experience, we have very good practical way of teaching machine safety operation. The lecture will have wide coverage. Hands-on practise will give you a good, safe and practical operation method based on numbers of cases.
For each machine there will be a lecture, a demonstration and a supervised hands-on experience.

*Table saw lecture is liimited to basic rip & cross cut operation only. Advanced operation will be covered in Advanced workshop
This is also an opportunity for the Koitoya night class students to get signed-off on this machines giving them access in their night classes.
You will gain the following
A good basic safety knowledge about woodworking machines.
A more comprehensive safety knowledge about (and supervised use of) the Jointer, Thicknesser, Panel and Table Saw and the Mortiser
Learning unique and safe Japanese way of cross cut operation.
Seeing unique Japanese style safety push stick.
Access to these machines in Koitoya night classes.
You will get simple printed material.

The day will be broken into 2 halves with a lunch break around midday.
Lecturer
John Lane (KOITOYA Design/Make/Teach)
After living in Japan for 4 years, John returned to Australia in 2002 and began studying woodwork at the Canberra School of Art. Since graduation he has worked at a couple of Canberra businesses until he joined Koitoya in 2023.

Parking
Please park your car in the public parking area along Maryborough Street (Free), opposite from J Racing.
We have two parking spots officially. Please contact me for a spot if you need to walk less for a health condition.
Way to the workshop
18 Maryborough Street is a battle-axe block, located inside of the block, so you will be walking through the driveway that leads to the block from Maryborough Street.
The driveway has 2 access points, near Aqua Safe Water Filters, and one next to J Racing.
Unit 4 is a blue colourbond building on the right-hand side of the block (SE end).
Things to bring
Please wear working shoes.
Bring your own water bottle and lunch.
