Join us with celebrated reo Māori educator and academic Hēmi Kelly (Ngāti Maniapoto, Ngāti Tahu-Ngāti Whāoa) for a facilitated conversation about his reo Māori journey.
Hēmi Kelly (Ngāti Maniapoto, Ngāti Tahu, Ngāti Whāoa) is a Māori language teacher, writer, and licensed translator. He is the author of A Māori Word A Day and A Māori Phrase A Day, and has translated works including Witi Ihimaera’s novella Sleeps Standing, Paulo Coelho’s The Alchemist, and Brian Friel’s play Translations.
As Director of Tautika Ltd, Hēmi works with a wide range of organisations to create, deliver, and embed Māori language learning plans. He has also worked as a Māori language and culture advisor on media productions, ensuring authenticity and cultural integrity in storytelling.
He is the creator of the Everyday Māori online learning platforms, including the popular Everyday Māori podcast.
