Event description

The Holocaust Centre Of New Zealand presents:

A tribute to "The Women's Orchestra of Auschwitz", this year’s Kristallnacht Commemorative Concert tells the stories of the lives of four women through the evening’s music programme.

We will journey from pre-war Europe through the horrors of World War II, recounting the many roles music played in their lives – resistance, survival, resilience, and a means to battle racism and fascism.

From virtuoso violin talent touring Europe to conductor of "The Women's Orchestra of Auschwitz”, the story of Alma Rosé, and three other inspirational women’s lives will be shared through this unique concert.

The concert musicians are Amalia Hall (violin), Yury Gezenzvey, (violin), Inbal Megiddo (cello), and the Kristallnacht Ensemble. The narrators are Inbal Megiddo and Sharn Maree Cassady; Donald Maurice is MC.

The concert is presented by the Holocaust Centre of New Zealand, in partnership with the New Zealand School of Music—Te Kōkī, Victoria University of Wellington.

It is supported by The Public Trust Hall and building owners Maurice and Kaye Clark and the Adam Foundation.

This concert commemorates Kristallnacht's “The Night of Broken Glass” - the pogrom on 9 -10 November 1938, when carefully orchestrated anti-Jewish violence was carried out across Germany, Austria, and the Sudetenland.

Doors open at 6:30 PM and The concert will begin at 7:00 PM, Public Trust Hall, Wellington.
