Event description

Jaded, overworked, worn down. With the acceleration of society, narratives have collapsed. Existence is a foggy mash; brain-rot is a culture. Yet inside there’s jade: a stone symbolic of endurance and virtue. As late capitalism subjects you to the split-screen hypnosis of Subway Surfer videos, what can this ancient stone teach about persistence?

Kudos Live JADE/D is the 2025 edition of our annual performance art showcase, this year featuring Harrison Rae, Josie Kearney, Sydney Jarrett & Seren Wagstaff, Theo Lathouras, Wen Pei Low / 刘雯佩 and Will Naufahu.

Some of the artists turn to endurance as a tactic to combat fatigue; others use the stage to create fleeting moments of captivation in a culture of numbness; still others use performance as a tool to speak to the jade/dness produced by capital, colonialism, nation-states, media culture, and fate.

Join us for this one-night-only event showcasing Sydney's most exciting emerging performance artists from UNSW, SCA and NAS. Kudos is excited to be partnering with Australia’s leading organisation for the development and presentation of experimental art, Performance Space for the program in 2025. Kate Britton, Artistic Director of Performance Space, and a member of their programming team, will be giving mentorship to the artists taking part in the program in the lead-up to the showcase.
