Discover the living history of Pōneke. Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga and the Kumutoto Restoration Project present a rare opportunity to connect with the heritage, ecology, and enduring stories of the Kumutoto stream.

An expert-led narrative
We invite you to explore this vital landscape alongside leading experts. Your guide for this journey is Dr Dennis Ngawhare, whose expert commentary will weave together the historical threads of the cityscape and forest. Complementing this historical perspective, Micheline Evans will speak first-hand on the restoration efforts breathing life back into this ancestral environment.

Your 2-hour guided walk follows the stream's natural geography, beginning at the ridgeline of Kelburn and descending through native forest into the urban centre, terminating where the fresh water meets the Wellington Harbour.
