Kunanyi Folk Club July
Description
Kunanyi Folk Club is excited to present a Tasmanian pairing of the highest calibre:
Rupert Ballard and Louis Gill
Rupert Bullard is an emerging, award-winning, independent folk musician from Lutruwrita/Tasmania. At just 19 years old Rupert's resonant songwriting has quickly seen him marked as a rising voice, sparking widespread, international acclaim.
Rupert is the recent recipient of the 'Emerging Artist of the Year Award' (Port Fairy Folk Festival), the 'Youth Artist of the Year' (Folk Alliance Australia) and the Outstanding Young Performer Award (National Folk Festival).
He has toured the UK and Ireland supporting Mick Flannery & Susan O’Neill (Ireland) and Haiver (Scotland) as well as a performance at the iconic Ruby Sessions. On home soil, he has performed sold-out headline shows and supported BIIRD (Ireland), Josh Pyke, Ainslie Wills, Ash Grunwald, Kim Churchill, Meg Mac and Tones & I and has received plaudits from a number of music-based publications.
Louis Gill is a bassist (of both types) and singer, and is a veteran of providing the heartbeat behind some of the most well-known and well-loved Tasmanian artists. From Claire Anne Taylor and Teresa Dixon to Montz Matsumoto and Pete Cornelius along with many other local collaborations, Louis can easily be found supporting Tassie artists statewide, interstate and internationally. Most recently Louis has worked with Rupert on his upcoming album.
Join us at the Folk Club to see the musical symbiosis of Rupert and Louis as the freshest of contemporary folk music meets the many-stringed folk maestro.
As usual, the evening's folk degustation will begin with several floor spots.
