KUPONYA by MOJA MOVEMENT combines the best of diverse culturally guided and inspired healing practices/approaches whilst fusing functional recovery, storytelling, biomechanical movement, yoga, mindful embodiment and music/art/dance therapy to support participants in a 3-part series of interactive workshops.

In each KUPONYA session we focus on different elements of HEALING, in cross-culturally facilitated workshops that practically support and hold space for people to show up in their authenticity and journey closer to who/where they'd like to be. Come to one or multiple, all are welcome.

every body is welcome. we are avidly passionate about creating and fostering inclusive spaces that allow people from all walks of life to participate in activities and experiences that truly nourish and support you whilst also making room for joy. in this space we actively encourage you can show up as your authentic self, in your mess and in your glory.

what you can expect:

this workshop will allow you to understand yourself more deeply through the key themes of ART, STORYTELLING, COMMUNITY. each workshop will be different as they will be co-facilited by special space holders from diverse cultural backgrounds, so you can come to one or multiple, knowing you will have a unique and powerful experience at each. every workshop will include components of individual as well as community healing through deep and intentional storytelling/exploration of your own experiences and those of your ancestors - through art, movement, poetry, music (no prior experience/talent is required to fill participate, we promise!).

the intention is that each unique experience will combine multiple therapeutic elements to create a deeper exploration and connection with the life you're hoping to cultivate.

ample space will be provided to connect meaningfully with like-minded people during this event (don't worry, all socialising will be completely guided and supported - so your social anxiety can rest easy knowing that we'll be there, walking beside you the whole way).

all resources needed to participate will be provided (i.e. paints, drums, tea, notebooks, pens etc.) so you literally don't need to remember to bring anything other than you, as you are, on the day.

all that we ask is that you show up with an openness to experiencing and exploring beyond the surface, comfortable clothing to move + get creative in (if you want to come in your old trackies or pj's, please feel free to!), just come ready to enjoy being you again (or maybe for the first time).

about the facilitators:

imara grace - a walker between different worlds, a navigator of change, she has been intentionally holding space and empowering a new way forward for youth and adults alike for the last 12 years. her lived experience - as mixed-race (zanzibari, french, english, australian); a navigator, an endurer and a thriver (in spite of the many great health/life adversities she has experienced); an advocate for fierce inclusion; a dancer and yoga teacher; a real human - which allows her to create therapeutic movement and healing workshops that empower and connect beyond the superficial. she's passionate about finding more accessible means for people to actively participate in and enjoy their lives; and is currently studying towards her master's in occupational therapy.

part one:

abuk lual - a proud kenyan-born south sudanese creative, poet, story-weaver and avid reading enthusiast. in sharing her passion for poetry and storytelling, she invites people from all walks of life to journey more deeply into empathy and understanding - by exploring themes of identity, love, trauma, and sexuality. abuk is greatly inspired by literary icons like lucille clifton, audre lorde, and bell hooks. her poetic pursuits have enabled her to produce and co-write a critically acclaimed, award winning short film ‘a leap of faith'. @abukofdreams

exchange:

workshop tickets are made available at a heavily subsidized cost thanks to valued support from the hillview intercultural community centre. accessibility is at the forefront of what we do at moja and this applies at all levels, so the cost of these half-day workshops has been deeply considered to make participation practical for all people.

tickets are offered at a further reduced cost to BIPOC (black indigenous people of colour) community members, in acknowledging and dismantling the existing systematic and financial barriers to healing.

arriving at the space:

we will commence the session with a warm start, meaning that you will have 15 minutes on either side of the ticketed start time to arrive, settle into the space, ask any questions that you may have, choose where you'd like to be during the workshop and connect with some wonderful like-minded individuals. the same will apply at the end of the workshop with a very warm close of 30-45 minutes.

there is ample free parking outside of and surrounding the community centre.
