-KURILPA REACH-

Kurilpa Reach are a contemporary roots 7-piece based in Brisbane’s inner-south suburb of West End. Traditionally a melting pot of ethnic communities, traditional owners and artists, West End has carved out a distinct identity and attitude that sets it apart from other surrounding areas. Kurilpa Reach can be seen as a reflection of this identity, with members from indigenous and migrant backgrounds. Kurilpa is the traditional name for the South Brisbane/West End peninsula, meaning ‘place of the water rat’, with Reach referring to the Brisbane River that surrounds the area on three sides.

When approaching music, Kurilpa Reach have utilised their own interpretation of West End’s melting pot attitude, following in the footsteps of other genre-blending groups such as KOOII, Kingfisha and Laneous. Based on a strong rhythmic foundation of dub and reggae, Kurilpa Reach blend in blues, neo-soul and rock resulting in an eclectic sound difficult to pigeon-hole into a single sound or genre. Despite this musical ambiguity, Kurilpa Reach have forged their own path in the Brisbane music scene, known for their pulsating grooves and high-energy live sets.

-KALILIA-

22-year-old solo artist, Kalila, spent her childhood years surrounded by the tropical mountains of Papua New Guinea and Gimuy/Yidinji (FNQ). From Arabic translation Kalila means Beloved; while her first name Aishya means Spring. Influenced by her connection to nature, Indonesian roots and the sounds of jazz, RnB and neo-soul tracks. Kalila’s angelic voice takes you on a lush field trip with vulnerable verses and warm riddims giving rise to the sense of dat Beloved Spring sunlight.
