KUYA WORKSHOP with Jamie Goldsmith from Taikurtinna

Join us for an immersive cultural workshop inviting participants to connect with Narungga Country through traditional knowledge, practice, and story. Open to people of all backgrounds, this workshop offers a meaningful opportunity to listen, learn, and strengthen connections to place through culture, respect, and shared experience. 

Participants will explore traditional Narungga fishing practices through hands-on learning, beginning with the making of a fishing net. Each person will contribute a section of net, brought together as a single shared piece symbolising cooperation, responsibility, and collective care for Country. Cultural storytelling and dance will also share the deeper responsibilities of caring for Country, and the enduring relationships between people, land, and ocean. 

Hosted by the Marna Banggara project in collaboration with Dhilba Guuranda–Innes National Park, this workshop reflects Marna Banggara’s guiding principles of Healthy, Prosperous Country, where cultural knowledge, community, and healthy ecosystems are deeply interconnected. 

Taikurtinna is a culturally rich Aboriginal dance group grounded in both Kaurna and Narungga traditions of South Australia. The name Taikurtinna, meaning “family,” reflects the group’s core values and its role as a multigenerational collective of cultural custodians. The group continues to honour its foundations as a family-based cultural collective, sharing culture with respect, integrity, and a strong connection to Country. 

Who is this event for? 

This activity is suitable for families all ages. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
