KWOOP Parliamentary Breakfast 2026

We are thrilled to invite you to the 10th Annual Keeping Women Out of Prison (KWOOP) Parliament House Breakfast. This milestone event brings together leaders, advocates and changemakers dedicated to transforming the lives of women affected by the criminal justice system. Join us for a morning of inspiration in the Stranger's Dining Room at Parliament House on Thursday 4 June 2026 from 7:30am to 9:15am.

We are delighted that this year's breakfast will be once again be co-hosted by The Hon. Jodie Harrison MP, Minister for Women, Minister for Seniors, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault, alongside The Hon. Natasha Maclaren-Jones MLC, Shadow Minister for Families and Communities, Shadow Minister for Disability Inclusion, Shadow Minister for Homelessness, Shadow Minister for Youth, Shadow Minister for Women, and Shadow Minister for Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault. Their bipartisan leadership on this critical issue exemplifies the collaborative spirit needed to drive meaningful reform. The breakfast will be expertly guided by MC Miriam Corowa, acclaimed ABC journalist.

We are privileged to welcome The Honourable Justice Yehia as this year’s keynote speaker. Her honour is a Justice of the Supreme Court of NSW, appointed in 2022. She began her career with the Western Aboriginal Legal Service, representing thousands of Aboriginal people across regional NSW. After taking silk in 2009, she became the first female Deputy Senior Public Defender in 2013, appearing in numerous high-profile cases and appeared as lead counsel in the High Court case of The Queen v Bugmy and in the Special Leave application in Honeysett.

Justice Yehia champions diversity in law as Patron of Diverse Women in Law and Chair of the Ngara Yura Committee, which increases judicial awareness of First Nations issues. She is also an Adjunct Professor at UNSW Law School, where she teaches sentencing, and author of "The Essential Guide to Sentencing in NSW" (2023).

As we celebrate the 10th anniversary of this signature breakfast event, this year's gathering offers a unique opportunity to reflect on the progress we've made and look ahead to the critical work still needed to achieve our ambitious goal: halving the rate of women's imprisonment in NSW by 2030, with a particular focus on reducing incarceration rates for First Nations women.

The Keeping Women Out of Prison Coalition is a powerful alliance of individuals and organisations committed to positive change. Together, through our thriving Community of Practice and collaborative efforts, we're working towards a future where fewer women face imprisonment, focusing on advocacy, programmatic initiatives and raising awareness to drive systemic change.
