EXQUISITE CORPSE SONNETS
We noted that Rabbit was soliciting writing of a collaborative nature thus our sonnets were born. We started with the ‘end of the line’. The first poem introduces the method by the way we crafted the poem. The last three words of each line, were all that was given to the writer of the following line, to craft the next line and so on. We are up to sonnet #20.
A TAST OF OUR WORK
insect exoskeletons lead me to shed my shell so i too can develop wings #7
on boobook nights i am the hawk moth drunk on scent of moonflower eyes #9
i am fused in overcast i do not trust my will to lie outside in truth i am the road block #19
Lucy Wilks is a Melbourne based writer who enjoys playing with metrical constraints and traditional forms. Her work has appeared in‘Verse,’ ‘Meanjin,’ ‘Southerly,’ ‘Otoliths,’ ‘Plumwood Mountain,’ ‘Cordite,’ and ‘Rabbit.’ In 2019 Winged Fish published ‘A Trial of Tercets,’ a handmade miniature, made and illustrated by Leone Gabrielle. Lucy also plays the mandolin and has a love of Bluegrass. In addition to her attendance of Claire Gaskin’s Writing Skills workshops, Lucy has recently become involved with Voices Of the South Side (VOSS), a culturally diverse and supportive organisation. She attends Vossanova, its choir, and its memoir writing group. Her most recent involvement is with the City of Voices theatre and performance group in South Melbourne.
Leone Gabrielle writes in company of autumn mice and flowers, from Seymour, a snaking town on Taungurung country.
