A celebration of Celtic culture, community, and connection across countries.

Join us for a celebration of Lá Bealtaine - the ancient Irish festival of fire and renewal, at the historic Gaelic Club in Surry Hills. This is a multicultural event, celebrating the influence of Celtic cultures and languages around the world. Our day-to-night festival has someone for everyone. In the early afternoon, we'll have family-friendly storytelling, kids' crafts, traditional food, and as the sky gets darker, think live music, Irish dance, flowing pints and more.

Try your hand at maypole, sea shanties, Morris dancing, or learn a few Irish words. With performances in English, Irish and many other languages, cross-cultural collaborations, and a feast of traditional Irish food and music, this festival brings together community, creativity, and culture in one joyful gathering.

Whether you’re part of the Irish diaspora, a language learner, or simply curious, Lá Bealtaine 2025 invites everyone to connect, create, and celebrate together.

Lá Bealtaine has been celebrated in Ireland since pagan times. It marks the beginning of summer in the northern hemisphere.

3:00 PM	Black Joak Morris Dancers Sydney's Cotswold Dancers takes the folk traditions of rural England and invests them with the energy of the modern inner city.
3:30 PM	Comhaltas Kids Youth Seisiún, performed by Comhaltas Sydney, who do group Irish music lessons for children aged 7 and up. All melody instruments are welcome.
4:00 PM	Harmony Steps Traditional Vietnamese Dancing
4:30 PM	Activities + Craft Food (if there's any left!)
5:00 PM	Singers + songwriters: Nicole Issa Gemma Ylana Jessica Paraha + Jimmy McLoughlin Evelyn Shanley + James Slack-Smith
6:00 PM	Redfern Shanty Club A community group of sea shanty enthusiasts who sing and enjoy maritime music, and will get you singing and enjoying along with them.
6:30 PM	Black and White Pudding Ross O'Donovan & Cam Samy playing traditional Irish music
7:15 PM	Na Peacaigh (Irish for 'The Sinners') is an upbeat, four-piece band, singing Irish language songs, traditional and modern with a sprinkling of foot-tapping dance tunes
8:00 PM	Celtic Tones Talented and passionate Irish traditional musicians. The group plays an impressive range of Traditional Irish and standard musical instruments including; Uilleann Pipes, Fiddle, Tin Whistle, Flute, Accordion, Octave Mandolin and Guitar.
8:45 PM - CLOSE	Seisiún (session) till close Bring your instrument from any culture, and join in!
