Sun, 4 Oct, 1:30pm - 4:30pm AEDT

Description

Impersonations, while deceitful, are key to unveiling truer, repressed motives, desires, and entitlements of the tourist for both Kincaid and Minaya.

The fulfillment of a tourist is often at the expense of a local's survival. Kincaid and Minaya make this known without any escape.

How do we become conscientious travellers, or must we boycott tourism completely? What are the effects of 'sustainable' tourism today in light of climate change and resource extraction, and might it be an emerging brand of neocolonialism?

Please join Ruth & I to discuss these ideas, followed by a general discussion with likeminded strangers, yet to call friends.
