Lake Mac's Sewing Bee - 21 & 28 July
Description
Every year, over 300,000 tonnes of clothing is either sent to landfill or exported from Australia (australiainstitute.org.au).
Repair It Lake Mac are looking for volunteers - community minded people and sewists of all abilities, to join us on Tuesday 21 July and/or Tuesday 28 July to turn clothing waste into reusable items for not-for-profit organisations and charities in the local area.
We will need volunteers at the 'deconstruction' station where clothing items will have buttons and zippers removed and be turned into usable pieces of fabric as well as our sewing station where new items will be created. Fabric cutters, pattern designers and volunteer organisers are also welcomed.
The new product range will include items such as pet mats, dish towels, ottomans, grocery bags etc.. The Repair It Lake Mac volunteers will provide you with the guidance and instructions to make the item that is being focused on at each Sewing Bee.
Sewing machines and equipment will be provided, however you are welcome to bring your own machine and supplies if you choose.
A light morning tea will be provided.
Parking is limited however there is an overflow car park directly next to the venue and Booragul train station is only a short walk away.
Join us as community comes together for a social gathering with purpose.
Registrations are essential.
