PUBLIC TALK 7–9pm. Friday 13th Dec 2024
FOUR POWERS OF EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE

Our culture has placed great value on developing intellectual intelligence and we have certainly reached great heights of understanding and accomplishments in doing so. Yet our societies are wracked with increasing rates of anger, anxiety, depression and jealousy. Something  is missing. Over 2,600 years ago Shakyamuni Buddha became fully enlightened and came to understand the true nature of the mind, emotions and existence. Neuroscientists, Psychologists and Cognitive Therapists have all taken great interest in the Buddha's insights to better understand their own fields. In this evening talk Lama Choedak Rinpoche will give guidance on the importance of four powers of emotional intelligence and you will learn how better understanding them will empower you to transform the negative ones into positive and intelligent emotions!

$20 / $15 members & concession. All proceeds will go to the Sakya Temple of Peace project in Canberra.

WEEKEND TEACHINGS
9.00am–5pm. Saturday 14th Dec 2024
HOW TO TAME THE MIND
It is impossible for me,
To restrain the external course of things.
But should I restrain this mind of mine,
What would be the need to restrain all else?
 Shantideva

Shantideva, an Indian Buddhist Monk in the 8th century wrote a book called The Bodhisattva's Way of life. Wherein he gives the detailed instructions of the path leading to enlightenment, all beautifully written in poem. The path is characterised as the embracing of altruism and the cultivation of wisdom that not only tames the mind but leads to the fully awakened state known as Buddhahood. In this full day workshop, Lama Choedak Rinpoche will focus on chapter 5, Vigilant introspection. Participants will gain a thorough understanding of the importance, benefits and methods of guarding one's own mind. Simply put, to become a conscious, good hearted human being!

EMPOWERMENT AND TEACHING : GREEN TARA

Tara is a Sanskrit word which means 'She Who Rescues.' She is a female Buddha within the Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhist traditions. Her qualities are associated with enlightened activity, wisdom, and compassion in action. Her unimpeded action is instantly and precisely attuned to the needs of each moment. She knows just what’s needed to facilitate our liberation. Green is also associated with the air element, and Tara’s green form expresses her unwavering commitment to act for the benefit of beings with the swiftness of the air. Meditating on Green Tara helps to  remove fear, gives protection, removes obstacles and obscurations and awakens enlightened awareness.

Rinpoche has kindly agreed to bestow the empowerment of Green Tara which permits one to meditate in the form of Tara, the effect of which is designed to awaken the dormant qualities of Tara within you, Rinpoche will also give detailed instruction on the Sadhana (meditation manual) of Green Tara and will guide how to do the practice.
