    Event description

The Land & Primary Industries Network (LPIN), a Network belonging to the NSW Decarbonisation Innovation Hub, is facilitating one hour of special impact presentations, to shine a light on current R&D that is having a climate-positive impact on the Land & Primary Industries sector.

Planned presentations, which align with the LPIN's Priority Focus Areas, will include:
-Carbon Abatement Horizons: Adrian Fisher, UNSW: "Using shrubs to sequester carbon in drylands"; Saori Miyake, UTS "Biomass crops on marginal land"
-Embedding sustainable bioproducts: Hugh Goold, NSWDPI/MQ Uni: "Broad projects &Synthetic Biology"
-Embedding low carbon and nature-based solutions in vibrant cities: Stephen Healey, WSU: "Becoming Climate Ready in Social Housing"
-Accelerating adoption of sustainable practices in productive landscapes: Bin Wang: current LPJ-GUESS modeling advancements in NSW.
-Circular Economy regional exemplars: Yale Garden, GeoExchange: "The role of thermal in the energy transition with regards to decarbonisation".

Following each 5-7 minute presentation, there will be opportunity for Q&A.

The second hour of this event will be devoted to networking opportunities in alignment with a mapping project that the LPIN is undertaking on policy instruments. We will want to hear from all our attendees on what legislation and policy instruments they think are having the biggest impact on decarbonisation in the Land & Primary Industries sector and why. This will inform a broader project being undertaken by our Legal & Policy Frameworks Working Group! We will set the scene with a presentation from Craig Bagnall (Seata Group) on the regulatory context for biochar in NSW.
