The Land of Rah and Box Elder @ Shadows
Event description
... Fresh off the release of their debut album Waiting for the Captain, taking over Sydney and closing Outsider Festival Land of Rah is soon touching down in the land of (can)bra! Julian & Hugo are the cogs behind the musical machinery - Expect a live set that’s as eclectic as your nan’s fridge door: jazz funk, electro, possibly a novelty calendar from 2009. The rest is a trade secret. You'll l have to be at Shadows… no spoilers, darling.
It’s not a consulting job that’s getting Box Elder back on the M1, it’s an encore at the place it all began. Now based in Eora, Box Elder has spent the last few years crafting a sound that can only be described as the musical equivalent of spilling coffee on yourself, but somehow still achieving personal growth. Founder of Gross Motor Play, long time RUC member, , and rumoured to have once opened for Peking Duk at a scout hall using only a MiniDisc player and sheer nerve. Expect Kylie bootlegs, Brisbane post-punk, IDM, EDM, BluRay, trance, hyper pop, lazy pop, and more.
Ben also returns, and Canberra’s been craving closure ever since he left. Much like his ironclad hold on the under-11 long jump record, his name still lingers...whispered in club booths, muttered in line for the loos. Most of those clubs may have shut their doors, but we’re pretty sure it wasn’t his fault.
He’s been reliving those glory days every day on the bus to UNSW, fusing downtempo tracks so seductive they should come with a warning label.
All of it expertly woven between tangled limbs as these three take over Shadows… one last time? Closure has never sounded this good.
