Landcare in Bandicoot Bushland (Adelaide Hills)

Event description

We would love for you to join the volunteers of The Sturt Upper Reaches Landcare Group (SURLG) at our upcoming landcare events!

SURLG maintains a demonstration site at 173 Upper Sturt Road behind the Soldier's Memorial Hall. The demonstration site has been revegetated and maintained by volunteers since around 2000 and is home to many local native flora species as well as a variety of fauna, including a population of Southern Brown Bandicoots.

The site is maintained via regular land care events each month (weather permitting). These give you great opportunities to learn about local flora species and bush care techniques you can apply to your own property. Activities that we will be working on on the day include:

-Installing, checking and maintaining bird & fauna boxes

-Seasonal planting

-Weeding and pruning

-Clearing of plant litter

-Brush cutting

-Clearing of fallen branches

We provide all the required tools and equipment.

The event will involve walking on a steep ramp and over slippery uneven ground. Please dress for the weather and terrain (sturdy footwear) and remember to bring a hat, sunscreen, water bottle and snacks if you are staying for longer than the event duration.

The event will be cancelled if there is extreme fire danger weather warnings, wind-storms.

Hosted by Sturt Upper Reaches Landcare Group, a member of the Bandicoot Superhighway Project restoring and protecting nature in the Adelaide Hills. For more information please visit: surlg.org.au or facebook.com/SURLG5156
