Landcare Kiama Coast Walk: Werri Beach
Event description
The Kiama Coast Walk is one of the region’s most breathtaking experiences—second only to the famous Blowhole!
Join us for a special guided walk starting at the southern end of the walk, along Werri Beach. Guided by local Landcare leader and plant expert Ailee Calderbank, you’ll learn about the unique history of the site, the dedicated work of the Dunecare group working along the beach for over 20 years, and their contribution to ongoing efforts to restore and protect our coastal ecosystems.
What you’ll discover:
- The native plants that make up our coastal and littoral rainforest vegetation
- The invasive weeds threatening the area and how they’re being managed
- The passionate Landcare community working to regenerate this site
- How you can get involved in this successful conservation project
The details:
- We’ll meet at the park at Werri Beach North and return there for a delicious catered morning tea.
- We will walk up and down the length of Werri Beach with plenty of opportunities to stop, rest and look around.
- The route includes dirt paths, sand, pavements, stairs and uneven surfaces.
- Wear sturdy walking shoes, a hat, and comfortable clothing, and bring plenty of water.
We also have a walk from Little Blowhole to Minnamurra on Saturday 12 April, and community plantings at Little Blowhole, Kaleula Headland, Bombo Beach, Werri Beach and Minnamurra. This event is part of our Kiama Coastal Community Planting Program, supported by the BUPA Healthy Cities Landcare Grant program.
