About the National Landholder Engagement Training

Our 3rd round of National Landholder Engagement Training on 2, 3 and 4 September 2024 supports those engaging with landholders and communities on renewable energy developments to do their job well and support better shared value outcomes.

We will hear directly from landholders on what’s going well and where we can improve. We will have a full day of training on risk and crisis communications. We will also get insights from land agents and community engagement leaders about things they have learnt on the ground and explore how to support each other.

Day 1 - Welcome + setting the scene (Starts at 2pm)

    • The social licence context
    • Setting the scene: Renewable energy development and why we need to get it right
    • Landholder Insights Panel: Chat with landholders on what’s going well and our opportunities to improve
    • Welcome + networking drinks

Day 2 - Skills development workshop

    • Communicating controversial projects with Risk Communication Specialist, Kelly Parkinson: Full day training on understanding and responding meaningfully to community concern
    • Land Agent Insights Panel: Chat with land agents and community engagement leaders to share experiences
    • National Landholder Engagement Training Dinner with guest speaker

Day 3 - Full day bus excursion (Finishes at 3pm drop off at Wagga Wagga Airport, 3:45pm at Transgrid Discovery Hub)

    • Site visit 1: Tetris Battery Storage Facility + Solar Farm, meet with host landholder to hear how this project is progressing
    • Area of interest 1: Gregadoo substation works - existing Wagga 330kV Substation
    • Site visit 2: Transgrid tower construction/erection - 3 x adjoining holdings hosting Project EnergyConnect
    • Area of interest 2: Lockhart Camp - temporary construction camp and laydown area
    • Area of interest 3: Tower construction - towers at various stages of construction
    • Site visit 3: Bomen Solar Farm, meet with host landholder and hear about this fully operational solar farm

Please note for the Day 3 bus excursion:
There will be some walking involved from the bus to each site, this is expected to be around 500 metres and on flat but uneven terrain. We will be going onto landholder sites, where all training participants will need to wear hiking or safety boots and bring a High Vis vest. If you do not have a High Vis vest, one can be organised. Safety and induction procedures will be held on the bus prior to the visits.

To learn more about the training, facilitators, accommodation and travel details, read more on our website.

Where will the training be held?

All training days will either be held at, or start at, the Transgrid Discovery Hub at 27 Kincaid St, Wagga Wagga NSW 2650. The Discovery Hub recently opened on 16 April 2024, offering a consistent and accessible point of connection with the Wagga Wagga community, landowners, and businesses in the surrounding areas. This innovative shopfront provides visitors with an inviting, space to engage with Transgrid and access information about our energy vision, major projects, operations, and community-based activities, all tailored to highlight the crucial role Wagga Wagga plays in the energy transition, and the opportunities this presents for the community.

Who should come to the training?

If you’re a Land Liaison/Access/Acquisition Lead or Community Engagement Specialist working in renewable energy development (wind, solar, hydro or transmission) this training is for you!

We also welcome engineers, environmental specialists and project managers and others working directly with landholders and communities to join us for the opportunity to upskill.
