We were beyond honored to open our series with a performance from LARAAJI and Arji OceanAnda and are very happy to extend this invitation for another evening of rapturous feelings and breathtaking sounds to close out our series of shows intended to encourage a community-oriented future for the Aztlan Theater. This is our 9th and final event of our 2025 season intended to bring together Colorado's music community at the Aztlan. ♡
Laraaji Venus Nadabrahmananda was born Edward Gordon in Philadelphia and had a musical childhood in New Jersey and Virginia, eventually moving to Washington DC to attend Howard University to study piano and composition. Soon thereafter, LARAAJI moved to New York City where he pursued stand up comedy and acting and began to explore spirituality and meditation. After a series of mystical experiences, including a fateful encounter with an autoharp at a pawn shop, LARAAJI emerged -- having electrified the aforementioned zither and experimented with improvisation and open tunings. LARAAJI soon began busking for long hours on the streets and parks of NYC, eventually being spotted by Brian Eno while busking, with whom he soon recorded Ambient 3: Day of Radiance, a foundational work of ambient music. Since then, he’s explored the depths of sound, laughter, and healing, putting out ground-breaking albums in the ambient, New Age, drone, singer-songwriter, dub, electronic and classical piano genres and collaborating with countless musicians including Audio Active, Bill Laswell, Carlos Niño, Kramer, Big Thief, Jonathan Goldman, Lonnie Holley, and Shabaka among many others. Decades and dozens of releases later, LARAAJI is a true force of nature, spreading healing sounds and laughter playshops around the universe, inspiring generations of sound practitioners and spiritual seekers.
Join us October 17th for the final installment of the 2025 Caracol Production series in honor of the Aztlan, community, love, and the healing forces of music.
