Lartelare Reserve to Yitpi Yartapuultiku Guided Walk

Join us for a guided walk from Lartelare Reserve to Yitpi Yartapuultiku with Aunty Margaret Brodie (Kaurna Custodian), Catherine McMahon (Friends of the Port River) and Willis Daveson (Cultural Ranger). This special event offers an opportunity to connect with Kaurna culture, local environmental restoration projects, and the unique landscapes of the Port River.

Aunty Margaret Brodie is the daughter of Aunty Veronica Brodie and the great-great-granddaughter of Lartelare, a senior Kaurna woman born on Kaurna Country near the Port River in 1851. As a certified tour guide, Aunty Margaret has spent more than 10 years sharing Kaurna culture, history and stories through walking tours, workshops and community programs. Join us to hear her personal insights and cultural knowledge of this important place.

Catherine McMahon is a member of the environmental group Friends of the Port River, bringing extensive knowledge and experience in climate change adaptation, coastal restoration, environmental monitoring, education and community engagement. Catherine has been involved in shellfish reef restoration, seagrass rehabilitation and living shoreline projects along the Port River and surrounding wetlands. Come along to learn about the environmental significance of this region and the work being undertaken to restore and protect these vital ecosystems.

Willis Daveson, Cultural Ranger at Yitpi Yartapuultiku, delivers cultural guided walks that immerse visitors in culture, Country and traditional knowledge. Willis will share stories of the site and discuss the native plants that have been planted and regenerated throughout the landscape. Learn about the cultural importance of these species to Kaurna people and the ongoing efforts to create healthy and connected environments.

Following the walk, participants are encouraged to spend time exploring Yitpi Yartapuultiku and reflecting on the rich cultural and environmental values of this special place.
