Laru Beya Collective | Juneteenth Celebration | June 19
Event description
Juneteenth Celebration
Join us in celebrating Juneteenth, Freedom Day aka Independence Day, on June 19! All kinds of fun will be had as we come together to celebrate African American culture & achievements. Refreshments will be provided, plus there will be beach games, intro to surf lessons, and arts & crafts. Sign ups are required to participate in the surf lessons. These are our basic intro to surf classes where students will learn the functions of the surfboard, basic board skills, safety measures + water safety skills, and surfing etiquette.
Our mission is to create a safe learning environment for black and brown folks who’ve always wanted to learn how to surf.
We started our surf lessons to encourage more folks in the BIPOC community to learn how to surf. There are numerous surf schools in Rockaway Beach, but many folks in the BIPOC community have expressed their feelings of not belonging in those spaces.
While we welcome everyone to join our Juneteenth surf lessons, we wanted to share why we started these lessons and who they're intended for.
Limited space available!
