Live At The Village is 'Back to where it all began' in 2024 to present a cross-cultural musical experience, ARIA-nominated Flamenco guitarist DAMIAN WRIGHT and Kurdish flautist METIN YILMAZ live in concert. A meeting of two distinct yet strongly-rooted cultural and musical traditions, experience the meditative sounds of Kaval (flute) with the captivating passion of the Flamenco guitar. A highly dynamic performance, from peaceful, contemplative melodies to exciting, virtuosic improvisations and rhythms, don't miss this thrilling duo live in concert.

DAMIAN WRIGHT is an ARIA-nominated Flamenco guitarist. Damian recently released his debut album “Shifting Sands” (ABC Music), which was The Sydney Morning Heralds ‘Pick of the week’, with Damian's guitar playing described as “Glorious”. Damian was invited to perform as a solo artist at The Rajasthan International Folk Festival, INDIA and in 2016 performed at The Shanghai Fringe Festival in CHINA. His ensemble BANDALUZIA was invited to perform at the biannual Adelaide International Guitar Festival curated by Slava Grigoryan & was a soloist at The Sydney International Guitar festival in 2017 & 2018. BANDALUZIA was awarded "The Pick Of the Sydney Fringe" at The Sydney Fringe Festival and performed at a sold-out Sydney Opera House Concert Hall as an invited artist to TEDX Sydney 2014. BANDALUZIA has headlined The International Gypsy Music Festival, Sydney, and The Global Carnival and is on Musica Viva's national touring program. In 2010 Damian received a development grant from the Australian arts council to study flamenco guitar in Spain with Pepe Justicia, where he spent five years. Damian has recorded with ensembles RASA DUENDE & THE TRANSLATORS on ABC/Universal and Jazzgroove Records, and his compositions have been played on ABC radio national and ABC Classic FM.

/ METIN YILMAZ /

Metin Yilmaz is a virtuoso exponent of the Kaval (Turkish/Kurdish flute). He was based for a decade in Cologne, Germany, where he toured Europe with some of Turkey’s finest musicians. Metin can deeply move an audience with his extraordinary playing.

Live at the Village has been presenting music concerts in the iconic Blue Mountains since 2009. We are dedicated to presenting the best Australian contemporary composers and musicians working in an eclectic range of music styles, including world, jazz, soul, folk, and all improvised music genres. Performances occur at Springwood in the lower Blue Mountains, just over an hour west of the centre of Sydney. Live at the Village members are professional musicians of national standing and music lovers.
