Laugh Yer Rocks Off!
Description
Kemp Town's newest stand-up comedy event, live at the Rock Inn on the last Thursday of every month! October's gig sees Kate Smurthwaite host as guest MC, with sets from posh Glaswegian Neil McFarlane and winner of So You Think You're Funny, Alan Francis.
Kate Smurthwaite performs stand-up comedy all over the UK and around the world. In 2013 she won a Three Week’s Editor’s Choice Award naming her One of the Ten Best Things about the Edinburgh Fringe. In 2014 she was nominated for the Emma Humphreys Memorial Prize for campaigning against violence against women. Kate has appeared as a panellist on Question Time as well as The Big Questions, This Morning, BBC News, Sky News, Woman's Hour, The Today Program, The Moral Maze, Newsnight and is a regular guest on Channel 5’s Jeremy Vine show. Internationally she is probably best-known as the star of a viral video circulated under the name Atheist Bitchslap.
Neil McFarlane is a comedian who’s been at it in every sense for a distressingly long time. From Glasgow but unfeasibly well spoken, he was a regional finalist in the BBC’s inaugural New Comedy Awards oooh way back when. He’s had all his jabs and he increasingly keeps his clothes on, at least in public life. Allow him to divert you from the horrific truth of your own existential plight, and occasionally to say the word “seepage”.
Alan Francis has been a regular on the UK and international comedy circuit since winning Channel 4’s So you Think You’re Funny at the 1991 Edinburgh Festival. He has appeared in numerous TV shows including Psychoville, Mid Morning Matters with Alan Partridge, Knowing Me Knowing Yule, Alistair McGowan’s Big Impression, Ancona and Co, Alas Smith and Jones, The BBC Stand-Up Show, the Alan Davies Show, Alexei Sayle’s Stuff, Between the Lines and Taggart.
