The Uluru Statement from the Heart has extended a generous and powerful invitation to all Australians. We are embracing this invitation and asking you to join us on this journey of understanding the Voice and constitutional recognition.

Together we will talk about why constitutional recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people through a Voice to Parliament is a crucial step in the walk towards reconciliation as a country. Town Hall attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions, share their feedback and learn about ways to engage in their local communities.

It is an opportunity for Australians across the country to come together, learn, and engage in a constructive conversation about the Voice Referendum and its potential impact.

Speakers

Nick Cameron:

Nick is a Pairrebeene / Trawlwoolway / Paredareme man from Tebrakunna Country Cape Portland and the Oyster Bay Nation. Son of respected Elder Aunty Patsy Cameron AO, Nick is the chair of Melythina Tiakana Warrana Aboriginal Corporation, and a director of the Tasmanian Aboriginal Legal Service. He is the Tasmanian community representative on the national Voice Referendum Engagement Group convened by Minister Linda Burney. He is also a community representative on the Tasmanian Treaty and Truth Telling Aboriginal Advisory Group. Nick is a strong supporter of constitutional recognition and an enshrined voice to parliament and will be voting Yes in the referendum.

Julian Leeser MP:

Julian was elected as the Member for Berowra in July 2016. Prior to his election, Julian was a senior executive at Australian Catholic University. Julian was previously Executive Director of the Menzies Research Centre. He also worked as a lawyer at Mallesons Stephen Jacques (now King & Wood Mallesons) and was an associate to High Court Justice Ian Callinan. Julian has been a longstanding support of the Voice to Parliament.

Bridget Archer MP:

Bridget Kathleen Archer is an Australian politician who has been a member of the House of Representatives since the 2019 federal election. She is a member of the Liberal Party and represents the Division of Bass in Tasmania. She is a co-chair of the new Parliamentary Friends of Uluru Statement from the Heart Group.

Angela Burt:

Angela Burt is a Palawa woman from Cape Barren Island. Currently living and working in Naarm (Melbourne), Angela is the Director of Indigenous Leadership at the Richmond Football Club. Angela’s portfolio includes strategic direction and oversight of the Club’s Reconciliation Action Plan, youth leadership programs, and Indigenous player development. In addition, Angela provides cultural leadership to nib and the Alanah and Madeline Foundation.
