Launch event: Melbourne-Bandung Food Waste Challenge
Event description
Join us for the launch of the Melbourne-Bandung Food Waste Challenge at Melbourne Town Hall!
City of Melbourne is partnering with Melbourne Food & AgTech Accelerator Rocket Seeder and our Indonesian partner City of Bandung to find innovative solutions to tackle food waste in our cities.
Did you know?
- 7.6m tonnes of food is wasted every year in Australia, costing the economy A$36.6 billion annually
- If food waste was a country, it would be the third largest emitter of GHG emissions after the USA and China
Collective action is needed to scale up efforts to reduce food waste.
The Challenge is seeking out Melbourne and Bandung innovators and startups solving food waste problems in one of three key sectors - hospitality, fresh food markets and airlines. Participants will be given a Challenge Statement to respond to and supported through the program with industry partner briefings and tours, access to mentoring, workshops and industry feedback to test and validate their solutions.
The launch event will bring together industry partners, stakeholders and prospective participants to network, connect and identify potential opportunities for collaboration. It is also an opportunity to hear from our Industry Partners Showtime Events Group, Queen Victoria Market and Garuda Indonesia as they discuss which food waste challenges they'd loved to see solved in their respective industries.
