Event description

Bringing culture, art, science and biodiversity together

The Genestreaming Journey Sculpture is coming to Ravensthorpe’s main street for the local community and visitors to enjoy and study. This unique public artwork, a proud part of The Gondwana Link Genestreaming Journey Sculpture Trail through the south-west, is a fusion of culture, art, science and conservation. It is designed to connect people with the grand evolutionary story behind life on earth, celebrate First Nations’ knowledge, and inspire action for our environment.

The Genestreaming Journey Sculpture initiative was co-founded by Elder Aunty Carol Pettersen and artist Ben Beeton.

Please join us at 2.00 pm on Sunday 16 March for the unveiling, and enjoy experiencing this installation first-hand. The sculpture’s intricate design blends First Nations’ inspired art on the exterior with scientific illustrations of local species and ecosystems on the interior. The effect is both a visual delight and an educational tool. Many of the external artworks have been created by Ravensthorpe District High School (RDHS) students working with Aunty Carol Pettersen and with the support of Aboriginal languages teacher Natalie Cordon.

The launch and celebration will include:

  • Performances by RDHS’s school choir
  • Inspiring words from Aunty Carol and RDHS Head Girl Pearl McManamon
  • Artist Ben Beeton’s story of the sculpture and its meaning
  • Natalie Cordon expressing the wonderful student interactions with Aunty Carol that led to their artworks
  • Keith Bradby’s outline of the Gondwana Link connection
  • Shire President Tom Major describing the Shire’s support for the project and custodianship
  • A Q&A panel for audience questions
  • Afternoon tea served by The Fitz.

This is a free event but please 'GET A TICKET' to assist us with estimating numbers for catering.

Please bring a hat.

THANK YOU: Gondwana Link warmly acknowledges the sponsorship of Lotterywest and the Shire of Ravensthorpe for the sculpture project. The support and involvement of many other organisations, artists, individuals and businesses has been instrumental to the sculpture's creation and installation - thank you ALL.
