    Event description

Please join us for the launch of the #OldisBeautiful resource for service providers and community groups interested in combatting ageism and building respect for older people.

Speakers include Dr Catherine Barrett, Project Coordinator and Director of Celebrate Ageing Ltd and Debra Nicholl, CEO of Elder Rights Advocacy - who will outline the role of the project in:

    • combatting ageism driven by the Fashion and Beauty Industry
    • protecting older people from internalised ageism
    • engaging community in reflection on ageism
    • building connections between older people - and those who are not yet old.

The #OldisBeautiful project involves workshops with older people to explore ageism and what beautiful means to them and to document these meanings in word and portrait photographs. The workshops help to combat internalised ageism, the photos and messages are shared to combat ageism in our culture. The project recognises beautiful as more than a physical form - it includes attitude, character, spirit and encompasses all shapes, sizes, skin colours, genders, sexualities and abilities.

The #OldisBeautiful resource for campaign facilitators includes: information and consent forms for participants, photographer briefing, workshop running sheet and ppt, draft media release, evaluation theory and tools, and license. We are grateful to the Maroondah City CouncilU3A Hepburn Shire, and Brimbank City Council for participating in the pilot workshops.
