    Event description

Church Street Studios presents the launch of The Undreamt-Of Centre, the new album by Sydney-based musical polymath, prolific drummer, composer, producer and curator Laurence Pike.

Tonight’s event features a solo performance from Pike, a very special guest solo set from legendary pianist Mike Nock, and an in conversation about the album, and the nature of creative music making, moderated by Clayton Thomas.
Copies of the album will also be available.

Along with his multiple solo releases for the UK’s Leaf Label, Pike is a member of Warp Records alumni PVT, electronic jazz trio Triosk, the UK’s Szun Waves, and legendary US/Aus avant-punk group LIARS.
He has also produced and performed two acclaimed duo albums with legendary jazz pianist Mike Nock, as well as working with artists as diverse as Bill Callahan, Daniel Johns (Silverchair), and in the regular groups Jack Ladder & The Dreamlanders and Sarah Blasko.

“His solo work is a marvel, radiating the absolute confidence of a man in command of his instruments and making very difficult things seems inevitable. He creates a hyper-aware universe of constant, new, undefinable sound, that only he could make. He expresses himself through performance with a commitment that goes far beyond energy and will... enthralling work that gives us real ritual. Ceremonies taken seriously that generate real power.” the Quietus

"Pike... is living proof that drummers need not dictate or dominate the pace. They can add feelings and flavours akin to any euphonic instrument in the right context.
With his innovation and fluidity, Pike could be a modern Jon Christensen, the great Norwegian percussionist who was considered ECM's house drummer.” All About Jazz
