LayLow PRESENTS: FRACTUS
Fractus explore the nexus between jazz and classical music. Uplifting highs and soft
melancholic lows, fractus balance evocative melodies with group improvisation and
bittersweet ambiances. Their debut EP, releasing 14th July, focuses on the passage of
time and the human connection to the natural world. Tracks like Plastic Vortex and Smog
explore the impact of pollution and climate change, whilst Harbour and Sifting Tides look
inwards at the past and future.
The band is led by Mark Hendry, a bassplayer and composer whose passion for jazz and
classical music has allowed him to write for orchestras and perform throughout Europe.
His journey into film scoring has brought a cinematic quality to fractus. Mark’s music takes
a lot of inspiration from nature, which was highlighted in his 2018 work The Endangered
Species Suite; five pieces inspired by different endangered animals for jazz ensemble and
string orchestra.
