Event description

Please Read First.

We often throw away things that stop working and buy new ones instead of fixing them. This creates a big problem for our environment because our landfills are filling up too quickly, and electronic waste is a significant source of pollution.

To help address this issue, we encourage you to learn how to fix things instead of throwing them away. Whether it's electronics, appliances, computers, toys, bicycles, clothes, or other items, please bring them to us for assessment, disassembly, and possible repair. We'll provide a workspace, specialty tools, and guidance to help you take things apart and identify problems. Even if we cannot fix your item, you'll learn more about how it works and was made.

This is a family-friendly event, and we welcome children of all ages to come and learn with us.

We hope to see you there!

FAQs
Does pre-RSVP save a spot?

Yes, RSVPing in advance for a time slot means you will have priority over walk-ins (only within the time slot you signed up - not if you show up earlier or later). We encourage everyone who plans on attending to RSVP in advance for convenience, but also because it helps us prepare for the event and speeds up the check-in process. Community members who are walk-ins will likely wait longer for a spot to open up. Please note that no one will be served after 2:30 PM.

How is the parking?

The newly opened Sport's Basement in Long Beach is in the old Sear's building off Bellflower, so there is ample parking in the lot right in front of the building.

How many items can I bring to the event?

Please bring ONE ITEM that needs to be repaired. We will try our best to solve the problem, but not every case is a success. Additional items brought in will be listed as walk-ins and serviced on a case-by-case basis.

What items do you not repair?

We try our best when it comes to repair, and not everything is made to be repaired. We have a 67% success rate. There are some items that our program is not set up to take. One rule is if you cannot carry it in, please do not bring it.

Here's a list of items we cannot repair at our clinics.

  • Mobile Phones and Tablets
  • Computer software
  • Any Mac or Apple products
  • Printers
How can I get up-to-date information?

LB Fix It Clinics are ran by a local coalition, called LB Reuses, that includes Pedal Movement, Algalita Marine Research and Education, LB Recycles, and other community organizations. The best way to stay up to date on all things LB Fix It Clinics is by subscribing to Algalita's monthly newsletter or LB Recycle's Newsletter. Updates will also be shared on the following socials: LB Reuses, Algalita, and LB Recycles.

How can I volunteer with the LB Fixit Clinics?

LB Fixit Clinics is about neighbors helping neighbors. When you RSVP, you can choose to volunteer for the day. We'll send an email to all past volunteers about future Long beach Fix It clinics you can volunteer at.

Does this cost money?

This event is free to attend, but it is not a drop-off and fix event. Instead, it is a hands-on event where participants can learn how to repair their items with the help of our expert coaches.

What if my item needs a replacement part?

As this is a free event, we do not provide replacement parts. If your item requires additional or replacement parts, you will be responsible for any costs incurred. The attendees are responsible for purchasing and bringing the necessary parts on the day of the event.

Will you accept walk-ins?

We will accept walk-ins if there is time, but it depends on how quickly we can repair the items of the pre-RSVP'd attendees.

Do you take donations of tools and supplies?

Oh boy, do we. If you have any old tools you don’t need, please email us at lbreuses@gmail.com to arrange drop-off.

Items in need:

  • Sewing machine
    • Sewing supplies
  • Electric screwdriver
  • Assortment of adhesives and tapes
