How we move through a city shapes what we can do in it. Yet transport is often planned around a straightforward trip from A to B.

Many women’s journeys involve caring for others, several stops, changing schedules and decisions about safety along the way.

Session 2 of GROUND/UP: Gender and the Planned City's 3 session series, brings practitioners together to explore inclusion, transport and gender across different regions. We want to hear what you have seen in your work, what is being tried, and what might change if we planned around the journeys people actually make.

So, whether or not you attended Session 1, we invite you to join other practitioners asking questions such as:

What becomes possible when we design transport around the richness and diversity of people's actual lives?
What would we change?
What assumptions would we throw away?
What haven't we tried yet?

Our journeys are shaped by real lives - caring for others, travelling after dark, carrying shopping, combining multiple trips, navigating safety, time, cost and accessibility.

Let's imagine what we could do differently.

We invite you to join the conversation on 9th October. You don't need to have attended Session 1 to take part in this session.

Also consider taking part in Session 3, on 23rd October, which explores governance, power, and cross-regional learning

Liveable Cities Collective is thrilled to be partnering with Urban Praxis, Cities Forum, and Policy Roots as a regional collaborator for this international initiative. We are convening a series of three comparative practitioner working sessions across Australia/New Zealand during UN-HABITAT Urban October 2026.

The broader initiative brings together curated cohorts of practitioners from Canada, Europe, India, and Australia/New Zealand.

About the host

Ronika Pistoria is an urban planning practitioner dedicated to advancing inclusive and liveable cities. With vast experience in urbanism research and data-driven planning, she has led city-wide urban planning and sustainable mobility initiatives.

Ronika’s commitment is to promote equitable, accessible, and inclusive cities, with a focus on creative partnerships.

Be present
Please join the session ready to participate. This means avoid multitasking or activities that divide your attention. Think of it as stepping into a shared room with others who are equally committed to the conversation.

Be safe
Join from a safe, stationary place - not while driving or travelling. The discussion deserves your focus, and your safety always comes first.

Be seen
We ask participants to keep their cameras on during the session. Seeing each other helps create trust, energy, and real connection. After all, you wouldn’t walk into an in-person gathering wearing a mask the entire time… right?
