Redressing the Imbalance

For years, workplace gender equality has sometimes been like a New Year’s resolution: everyone starts with good intentions, there may even be a plan… but maintaining momentum can be harder.

But the conversation is changing. Recent changes to Australia’s WGEA legislation are moving larger organisations beyond simply reporting the numbers towards demonstrating what they are actually going to do about them. Mandatory gender equality targets mean good intentions increasingly need to be supported by measurable action.

Because data can tell us where the imbalance is, but it doesn’t fix it. Real progress means asking some occasionally uncomfortable questions: Who gets encouraged to put their hand up? Who gets the stretch assignment? Who is judged on potential, and who is judged on proof?

Redressing the imbalance isn’t about creating an advantage. It’s about recognising that the playing field may have been tilted for a long time.

The real question is: if reporting requirements disappeared tomorrow, would we still be doing this work?

Our presenter:

Suzie Stitt is the Managing Director of Humanly Resourced and a passionate advocate for getting the people side of business right from day one. With postgraduate qualifications in Human Resources Management and a degree in Psychological Science, Suzie works closely with manufacturing, construction and operational businesses to ensure the employee lifecycle is effectively managed at every stage, including transforming onboarding from a tick-and-flick process into a powerful driver of safety, engagement and retention.

Known for her practical, straight-talking approach, Suzie brings real-world experience through both an operational and technical lens, alongside deep people and culture expertise. When she’s not immersed in workforce strategy and culture, Suzie is a busy mum of two young boys and spends her spare time at the shooting range, running, or renovating and building houses. These passions reflect her hands-on mindset, love of problem-solving, and strong belief that solid foundations matter in everything we build, especially our people.
