LEAN INTO THE SKID: Skill up to hold conflict in community

A 3 day Community Mediation training
Friday June 7 - Sunday June 9

Conflict is a natural part of life.

And yet, so many of us still do not know how to skillfully move through conflict when it emerges. Especially in the Pacific Northwest, a ubiquitous culture of conflict avoidance can keep us from moving towards conflict or voicing hard truths that need to be revealed for growth to happen.

Our ability to move through conflict will make or break our communities and movements for social change. As powerful as our visions may be, we will not be able to birth them into reality if we cannot weather the natural conflict that comes up and lean into the skid.

One of the reasons conflict is challenging is that it surfaces our wounds and relational traumas. This can make it challenging for us to show up as our best selves, resulting in conversations that lead to further rupture rather than repair. This is why the presence and support of a third party to mediate or hold space for conflicts in community can be so important & transformative.

Lean into the Skid is designed to build your skills, confidence, and clarity around how to support others in conflict.

This training differs from a conventional 40-hour Mediation Training because it will center an awareness of trauma, somatics, power, and attachment in how we understand and move through conflict.

This offering is for you if you:

  • Have a natural skill for holding multiple perspectives
  • Want to support the cohesion & harmony of your community
  • Wish you had a more concrete process to lean on for navigating conflict in community

What you will receive:

  • A clear, personalized process for how to mediate conflicts
  • Core capacities, skills, and strategies for holding others in conflict
  • A training packet full of teachings, frameworks, and questions for holding conflict
  • Practice mediating in a role play scenario
  • Ideas for community conflict policies & processes
  • Supportive connections with other community conflict-tenders

Quotes from participants in previous Healing Rising courses:

“One of the most amazing and energizing workshops I've taken. I came out of these sessions with a deeper knowledge of myself and a clearer understanding of where I can go with intention and authenticity.”

“Lux creates a comfortable environment where it is safe to be vulnerable and make mistakes. The lessons, discussions, and community enriched my life so profoundly that words cannot express.”

Sliding Scale Guidance:

A sliding scale is an equity-based payment structure where the participant’s financial situation informs the rate they pay for a service.

The bullet points listed below are just examples to help guide your self-assessment. I trust you to factor in these considerations and choose the level that feels right for you at this moment.

Choose a rate on the low end ($300-500) of the sliding scale if you:

  • Do not have a financial safety net
  • Have large debt or student loans
  • Are Black, Indigenous, or otherwise systemically disadvantaged based on your identities

Choose a rate in the middle ($500-700) of the sliding scale if you:

  • Can go out to eat without thinking about your finances
  • Have a salaried job with benefits
  • Have family that would financially support you if you needed it

Choose a rate on the high end ($700-900) of the sliding scale if you:

  • Own property or other significant assets
  • Make over $100K per year
  • Never feel scared of not having enough

Please pay at the highest rate that you are able to, and know that there is no ceiling. Your generosity supports me in offering scholarships to those who are unable to afford these rates.
