This class being both theory and practical-based based is perfect for any beginner or enthusiast photographer wanting to learn more about their camera, gain a deeper understanding of manual controls and how to frame better photos.
Once Ian has explained the controls he will ensure you understand what settings to change in different scenarios by heading out in Sydney CBD for some real life application where you can also test your new found skills.
Skills Ian will teach include:
- Taking control of your camera in Manual or priority modes.
- Understanding exposure triangle; ISO, Shutter Speed, Aperture
- Using shutter speed to control motion
- Using Aperture to control depth of field
- Frame your photos like a professional by having a proper understanding of how to frame your shots.

About Ian Van Der Wolde

Multi award winning photographer Ian van der Wolde is a leading Melbourne based commercial photographer who first opened his studio, Altered Images Photography back in 1986.
Ian has achieved the level of Master of Photography IV (4 Gold Bars), and was awarded the honours, Honorary Fellow and Fellow of the former Australian Institute of Professional Photography, the industries peak body for over 75 years. Ian in recent decades has also accumulated numerous industry awards, titles and endorsements.
Ian was awarded the AIPP Victorian Landscape Photographer of the Year title, not once, but twice in both 2012 & 2017 at the Victorian Professional Photography Awards, he also took out the AIPP Victorian Illustrative Photographer of the Year in 2012 giving him 2 category wins that year.
A pioneer in the field of digital capture, colour management and fine art printing, he has built a solid reputation on the high standard of service he provides his clients and is also a brand ambassador for many of the industries leading heavyweight companies. (see below)
Ian deals with advertising agencies, design studios and clients direct. His area’s of specialty include, advertising photography, aerial photography, architectural photography, commercial photography, corporate portraiture, fashion photography, food photography, industrial photography, product photography and large format archival fine art printing.
Although Altered Images studio is based in Melbourne, Ian is regularly commissioned by clients for assignments on location both Australia wide and internationally.
