Learn the Fundamentals of Slab Building

Learn the Fundamentals of Slab Building is a small-group workshop focused on developing core hand-building skills. Guided by Jenn, participants will explore the slab techniques she uses to create her signature refined, architectural forms. The session includes step-by-step demonstration followed by supported making time, allowing participants to apply techniques to their own work. With a maximum of four participants, the workshop offers a focused and personal learning environment, building confidence and practical skills that can be extended into individual practice.

About the Artist
Jenn Johnston is a ceramic artist with over twelve years of experience, running a studio-based practice in Mullumbimby. Largely self-taught, her work centres on clean, architectural forms that sit between function and sculpture. Her practice continues to evolve into more sculptural territory, with exhibitions scheduled in 2026. Her work is collected locally, nationally, and internationally. Jenn rarely teaches, making this a valuable opportunity to learn directly from her in an intimate studio setting.

Materials and Equipment
All clay and equipment are provided. Jenn will fire and glaze finished pieces, which will be ready for collection from the studio several weeks after the workshop. Pieces can be carefully packed for postage if required.

Additional Information
Suitable for beginner to intermediate participants. The workshop is limited to four participants to ensure individual attention. Please wear appropriate clothing for working with clay. Postage costs for finished works are not included and will be the responsibility of the participant.
