Learn to machine sew like a pro
Event description
Sewing with Lesley – A Day of Stitching & Stories
🧵 Beginners & Intermediate Machine Sewing Workshop
Step into a day of sewing with Lesley, who at 79 has been sewing for as long as she can remember. From school dresses and curtains to wedding outfits and treasured quilts, there’s not much she hasn’t stitched together in her lifetime. She brings not only her skill but her warmth, patience, and a knack for problem-solving the trickiest of tangles.
In the morning, we’ll gather with a cuppa and biscuits as Lesley gently takes us through the basics: getting to know your machine, threading, winding a bobbin, exploring seams, naps, selvages, and what to do when things don’t go to plan. Think of it as sitting at the kitchen table with a wise friend who’s happy to share her secrets.
After lunch (BYO), the hall will hum with creativity as we each work on our own simple projects — a hem that’s been waiting forever, a basic pattern you’ve been wanting to try, or a little repair that needs care. Lesley will be by your side, ready with encouragement, guidance, and the odd story from her many years of making.
What to bring:
Your sewing machine
Scissors, pins, stitch unpicker and cotton to match your fabric
A small project or simple pattern for the afternoon
BYO lunch (morning tea with biscuits and a cuppa provided)
