Wed, 10 Feb, 9:30am - Wed, 31 Mar, 12:30pm 2027 AWST

Description

Every Wednesday morning from 9:30 for 3 hours.

This Learn to Sew course designed for adults who are new to sewing, been away for a while from sewing or just want a refresher with a variety of projects. Classes are kept to a maximum of 8 for individual instruction and support.

Bring your sewing machine with a basic sewing kit (scissors, pins, fabric marker, measuring tape) or borrow one of my sewing machines for an additional fee of $10 per week or $60 for the term.

This is a term based course so attendance is for each Wednesday and the course fee covers all 8 dates.

We will make a variety of items over the 8 weeks. Patterns can be purchased separately for you to make the items again at home. Fabric will need to be purchased but kits can be from me for each item we will be making or I will advise on the fabric types and other items (elastic, zippers etc) which will be needed.

Week 1

After learning to thread the machine and identify its basic parts we will cut and stitch a lined tote bag.

Week 2

After setting up the machines we will cut and stitch a handy zippered pouch.

Week 3

A consolidation of the steps so far, we will combine the simple shape of the tote bag with the zip skills of last week to make a zippered crossbody bag that can hold a phone and other essentials.

Week 4 & 5

Adding another skill we will cut and make a skirt with elasticated waistband. This could be for an adult, teenager or child. We will go through the measurements, check them twice and cut in week 5 and finish stitching in week 6. Decoration can be added to the skirt through embellishment with ribbon, ric rac or pom poms.

Week 6 & 7

Developing the skills of the last fortnight we will make a pair of trousers with an elasticated waistband. The trousers will have pockets and decoration can be added to the legs.
