Why You, Why Now?

Mandatory reporting on climate is a big deal. It is where Agriculture and Climate are converging. This is coming sooner than people expect.

There is a dangerous "gap" between when farmers will need to report on their emissions and when they can meet Net Zero. If farmers don't have a plan for this issue, they can be sure everyone else in their supply chain, bank and surrounding industry does. That should NOT provide comfort to farmers that often are the last to benefit from the good environmental work they do.

The solution to this "gap" problem - that we have seen firsthand - is farmers working together - at landscape scale.

This session is designed to share what we have learned and the ways farmers are responding to these challenges.

Right up front we explain why the "gap" matters to farmers. Then, we draw on our experience with the likes of McDonald's supply chain to share the solution ie "farmers working together".

Who Are We

Regen Farmers Mutual (RFM) helps farmers create both environmental and economic profits. It assists farmers in first understanding their environmental assets and then in finding ways to use them to create value through supply chains and environmental markets like carbon and biodiversity.

As a farmer-owned mutual, we seek to maximise returns to our members - and we're perfectly designed to help farmers to work together. This is why we are leading the way in Australia to bring farmers together to undertake landscape impact transactions. In September 2022, the Queensland Government's Land Restoration Fund (LRF) awarded the Regen Farmers Mutual a grant to explore multi-farmer landscape-scale restoration. Since then, we have secured funding for 10 more of these "Landscape Impact Programs" and have 20 more in the pipeline.

But we're also working with supply chains to find ways to enable farmers to be recognised for their farm management practices. Our farm digital twin technology enables farmers to collect and share data and certifications that can prove their environmental claims. We're piloting this technology in the McDonalds beef supply chain over 2023. It is ground-breaking, farmer-controlled and importantly open-source to avoid vendor lock-in and maximise returns to farmers.
