About the webinar

Learning to Live Differently will focus on supporting chronically ill, neurodivergent, and otherwise disabled clients through understanding & navigating identity shifts, capacity changes, needs, grief, loss, meaning, systems, barriers, and more.

This webinar specifically designed for those working in allied health, medical/healthcare, peer worker, support worker, therapeutic, and community roles — anyone in a position of supporting disabled folk as they navigate being (newly, more, or multiply) disabled, the impacts on life and identity, engaging with systems, barriers and needs, and understanding experiences & processes. In doing so, we will also cover topics that are essential for Competency 7 under the new professional competencies for psychologists.

We will explore things from anti-ableist, anti-colonial, depathologising, neuro-affirming, trauma-informed, intersectional, and disability justice frameworks. The workshop is grounded in community wisdom and lived experience, up-to-date research, and clinical practice. Resources to support post-webinar reflection and learning will also be provided to all attendees.

Key topics will include:

What is disability, and what does it mean to become (more) disabled? A nuanced, multifaceted lens
The impact of systems / environments on experiences, needs, and barriers
Grief, loss, and the many forms of change
Identifying and unpacking internalised ableism (ours and / or our clients')
Identity and intersectionality
Interplay with dignity, autonomy, access, and quality of life
Considerations, psychoeducation, and approaches for safe, affirming, and accessible therapy / practice
Disability justice, advocacy, and allyship

An assessment quiz can be provided afterwards to those who would like one, so that the webinar can count towards 2.5 hours of active CPD.

How and when will it be presented?

The webinar will be presented live via Zoom, from 10am-12:30pm AEST on Friday 1st August 2025.

It will also be recorded, and the recording will be available for all ticket-holders to access for 30 days post-live event.

Who is presenting it?

The webinar is created and presented by Lumen Gorrie (they/them). Lumen is a queer, trans, AuDHD, chronically ill, disabled person living and working on unceded Wurundjeri Land. They are a registered clinical psychologist, board-approved supervisor, educator, and advocate. Lumen is passionate about neurodivergence, gender, queerness, eating disorders & differences, chronic illness, disability justice, advocacy, and systemic change.

Ticket prices

There are a range of different ticket prices, to ensure that events are financially accessible to anyone / everyone. You can claim the purchase as a business expense when doing your taxes, if the workshop is relevant to your work.

Zoom links and recording access

You will be able to access the webinar via a Zoom link. This will be sent to you the day before, and on the day of, the webinar.

If you are unable to attend at the scheduled time, please note that the webinar will be recorded by Lumen. Ticket holders will have access to this recording for 30 days after the event ends; you will receive this link via email, so that you can watch / review it at a time that suits you (more info on this below). Please do not distribute or forward the link / recording to others. Thank you!

You are welcome to turn on closed captions during the webinar.

There is no expectation to have your cameras on, or to contribute, during the workshop; doing so is optional.

The recording will be available to all ticket-holders post-event. I completely understand if you cannot attend one or both parts live, and can only watch/listen to the recording, due to capacity reasons or other commitments. I also understand if you need to leave the live workshop partway through, and catch up on the rest via the recording, due to changes in capacity or other commitments.
