Legacy Storytelling with Caylie Jeffery

Legacy is our human story, giving life meaning and connecting us through relationships, communities, and spirit. How will you share yours?

Collecting stories from family members is not always easy. Memories of the past are often locked away in albums and shoe boxes, laugh lines and quiet moments. This workshop will help you to capture stories and memories, using photographs, keepsakes and your own words.

Learn how to use mind mapping, family tree building and journaling techniques. Discover how to find your stories from old letters, recipes and anecdotes from years gone by. Create a lasting legacy project for future generations to enjoy and learn from.

Learning outcomes

Participants in this workshop can expect to learn about the following:

• What are personal legacy projects
• Why do a legacy project
• How to start a Legacy project, including how to structure the project, what topics to include, and how to write in a clear and concise way.

• A greater sense of peace and well-being.

Format

This is a hybrid workshop with a focus on writing craft; it will be held in-person at State Library of Queensland and live streamed to an online audience via Zoom. This workshop is suitable for writers of all level, ages and backgrounds.

About Caylie

With a background in nursing, writing and counselling, Caylie Jeffery has an affinity with people and their stories. She believes that the creation of personal legacy projects can give people a deeper sense of meaning and life purpose, as well as providing some peace and well-being.

Caylie is a successful writer and award-winning author, heading up the popular online community history project, Under the Lino. She works as a Mentor at the Queensland Writers’ Centre, teaching Seniors how to write their memoirs, and partners with Kerry Forsythe to run Paddington Then & Now, the popular local inner-city Brisbane historic organisation.

Caylie also works as a Marketing Manager for Brisbane Living Heritage, supporting local arts and history organisations with training, skills development and networking opportunities.
