Event description

Legendary Jim Hopkins turns satirical wit into good in Kāpiti

Electra Business Breakfast – B2B networking – Sponsored by Electra

Nau mai haere mai Electra Business Breakfast is pleased to be welcoming Jim Hopkins and the team from Our Lady of Kāpiti Events to have some fun and do some good as we lead into the Christmas silly season!

Be captivated by the legendary Jim Hopkins – a broadcaster, columnist, author, debater and, believe it or not, local body politician!  He is delightfully endearing, a quick-witted character, and can talk on pretty much everything including auctioneering, except fashion and full-body waxing!  He will talk first and then take Qs, before auctioning some fantastic items generously donated by locals so we can collectively do good for others over Christmas.

Jim is famous (or infamous) throughout New Zealand.  Although not always obvious at Waitaki District Council meetings, where important matters like potholes and dog licences tend to dominate, his ability to make people laugh has made him one of this country's most sought-after humorous speakers.

See you there! Book early to avoid disappointment.  Bring your generosity so we can raise as much money as we can in a short time to do some good for others over Christmas in Kāpiti.

WELLNESS UPDATE

Please don’t attend if you are feeling unwell.  We look forward to seeing you all soon.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER: Jim Hopkins

Councillor Waitaki District Council, Broadcaster, Columnist, Author, Debater, MC

Jim has spent a large part of his working life in and around the electronic media as a radio talkback host and, on TV, as a scriptwriter (remember Close to Home), interviewer, journalist and presenter on a wide range of documentary, news and current affairs programmes including The BNZ Festival Debates.

In 1998, he released his first book, Blokes & Sheds that hit number one on the New Zealand sales list after a week.  A second book followed in 1999, Inventions from the Shed, and a 5-part film documentary series with the same name.

Jim was a Christchurch fellow who moved to Ōamaru some years ago and has stayed there ever since.

ABOUT OUR LADY OF KĀPITI EVENTS

Nestled in the heart of Kāpiti, Our Lady of Kāpiti parish is a beacon of generosity and compassion.  Inspired by vibrant community spirit, some years ago a few parishioners founded Our Lady of Kāpiti Events, a registered charity dedicated to uplifting those in need.  With a mission to seamlessly weave support into the very fabric of Kāpiti, this initiative embraces imaginative and engaging fundraising events that not only raise essential funds but nurture connections and community.

This Christmas is about lending a helping hand to Kāpiti families and individuals who could use a little extra support during the Christmas season.  Christmas is a magical time for many, yet unfortunately, this is not the case for all families and individuals in the Kāpiti community.  Last Christmas, Our Lady of Kāpiti Events delivered over 60 food parcels varying in value from $50 to $400 to families who were struggling to make ends meet.  This was the only gift and greetings that some families and individuals received.

Electra Business Breakfast and Our Lady of Kāpiti Events are thrilled to be collaborating with this Christmas auction.  Get ready to raise those paddles and open your wallets for a variety of creative and one-of-a-kind items. Let’s come together to spread joy and make a meaningful impact for families and individuals in our community this Christmas!
