    Event description

Standard Mental Health First Aid Course (2 Day Course)

This course provides adults with the skills and knowledge to recognise and respond to a friend, family member, colleague, or any other adult, experiencing a mental health problem.

You will gain confidence in applying Mental Health First Aid to a range of common mental health issues such as, anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts and behaviours, substance use, psychosis, non suicidal self-injury and trauma reactions.

Using a practical, evidence-based action plan, course participants learn how to approach someone they are concerned about and initiate a conversation about those concerns. Participants also learn how to offer initial support and information and how to encourage the person to seek professional help or other supports.

Adults who complete the course can complete a short assessment to become an Accredited Mental Health First Aider (accreditation valid for 3 years).

*This course is recognised by Suicide Prevention Australia as a safe, high-quality, and effective suicide prevention program.

    About the instructor

I have previously worked as a Clinical Psychologist for over 10 years in private and public teaching hospitals in Western Australia (Perth Clinic, PMH, Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital). This has given me extensive skills and experience in assessing and treating mental health issues across a diverse population. I have also been involved in developing and implementing training and education programs in these settings. Since discovering Mental Health First Aid I am passionate about introducing it to as many individuals and workplaces as possible as I believe in its ability to improve our communities and workplaces enormously.
