Understanding Your Child Through a Nervous System Lens

Parenting can be deeply rewarding — and also incredibly demanding.

When your child is overwhelmed, highly emotional, resistant, shut down or seemingly unable to do what is being asked of them, it can be difficult to know what is really going on underneath the behaviour.

This three-week small-group workshop offers a different way of understanding those moments.

Rather than focusing simply on behaviour, we will explore what may be happening within your child’s nervous system - and within your own - so you can begin to respond with greater understanding, confidence and choice.

Across the three sessions, we will explore:

Week 1 — Understanding Your Own Nervous System
We begin with you. You’ll learn how stress and overwhelm can show up in your own nervous system, recognise some of your individual patterns, and explore what happens to you when parenting becomes difficult.

Week 2 — Understanding Your Child’s Nervous System
We turn our attention to your child. We’ll explore what may sit underneath behaviours such as meltdowns, withdrawal, resistance, anxiety, impulsivity or difficulty with transitions — and consider the question: What might they need right now?

Week 3 — Bringing It Into Everyday Parenting
We bring the pieces together with practical ways to respond in real-life situations. We’ll explore connection, repair, boundaries and simple strategies you can use when things become difficult - without expecting either you or your child to get it right all the time.

What makes this course different?

This isn’t about becoming a “perfect parent” or following a rigid parenting formula.

It is about understanding what is happening beneath the surface - in both you and your child - and developing approaches that work in the real world.

The course draws on nervous system-informed practice, mind-body therapy and neuro-affirming approaches, while keeping the focus practical, accessible and relevant to everyday family life.

The group is intentionally small, with a maximum of 10 participants, creating space for discussion, reflection and questions.
