Let's Get Referendum Ready
Event description
This is your chance to get some clarity on what is really going on with the Indigenous Voice to Parliament and the Referendum, in the midst of a sometimes confusing debate. Bring your hopes and questions and hear the insights and answers through listening to our speakers and sharing with others.
Speakers on the evening include:
- Geoff Scott, a Wiradjuri man and member of the Uluru Dialogue of the Indigenous Law Centre at UNSW
- Chris Tobin, a Darug Elder and educator
- Brooke Prentis, a Wakka Wakka woman of Listening to the Uluru Statement from the Heart and recent CEO of Common Grace
You will hear how the Voice came about as part of the The Uluru Statement from the Heart by Indigenous people. It is an essential first step, to be enshrined in our Constitution, and will enable the other two to happen, Agreement-making and Truth-telling. You will hear how the Voice to Parliament came about after years of deliberation across the country, where it is now and what is planned for its long term implementation.
The Referendum gives all Australians a vote to give constitutional recognition to Indigenous people and create a new platform for Australia as a whole.
