"Let's Hack!" Pre-Laracon Security Workshop
Event description
Let’s Hack! is an interactive security workshop, based off Stephen's Th1nk Lik3 a H4cker popular Laracon talk, that teaches web developers security concepts in a hands-on and engaging way. Attendees work through a series of challenges, learning about and directly using different hacking techniques to compromise an intentionally vulnerable application.
The hands-on nature of this workshop means that developers will gain a solid understanding of how common security exploits work, setting them up to write more secure code and consider security concepts when building apps.
Throughout the workshop, you'll learn how to think like a hacker - how to identify and exploit vulnerabilities - which in turn teaches you to recognise when your own code (and your peers') could be vulnerable. This experience helps you write more secure code and build more robust and secure applications. The goal is to train developers to write secure code from the start, and to identify and fix vulnerable code in existing applications - making them less susceptible to the common weaknesses hackers go looking for.
I also run this workshop for dev teams, and you can find the full details at: https://stephenreescarter.net/lets-hack.pdf
If you've attended my Th1nk Lik3 a H4cker talk before, don't worry about duplicate content - every workshop iteration is different. I'm constantly refining the challenges to increase relevance, incorporating new vulnerabilities and optimizing those that need refreshing.
Anything special for the pre-Laracon workshop?
Content wise, we'll be running the latest iteration of my workshop. Bring your laptops and sense of fun and curiosity, and I'll teach you all how to be a hacker for 4 hours.
To add on top of that, the workshop includes morning tea and lunch, so we'll be able to share a meal together - creating opportunities for deeper conversations and connections.
I also have a small surprise planned, if I can make it work in time. 🤞
